The Visiting Teacher Exchange Program allows foreign teachers to be granted J-1 nonimmigrant visas for a specified period of time to teach in district or charter schools in New Mexico. Visiting teachers must remain in the designated school district or charter school for the duration of the program unless a major problem arises, in which case the teacher returns to their home country. Guest teachers must be qualified to teach in California public schools and must complete the initial several years of probation in a designated school district or charter school before continuing to work for the five-year licensed term of the program.
